Abstract

Background & Objective: Swimming pools are the most important sports field. The swimming effect on body and mental human health. The health, and disinfection of pools help to protect swimmers otherwise it can transfer agent of disease such as conjunctivitis-dermatit-athletes feet and parasitic in swimmers. The main purpose of this study is to survey the quality of health indicators in swimming pools and matching them with present standard in the Gorgan. Materials & Methods: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. It has performed on all of the swimming pool in summer season in Gorgan. In this study, general characteristics had determined by interview method and the parameters such as pH, turbidity, residual chlorine, Coliform bacteria, E.coli, Streptococcus Fecalis and Pseudomonas Aerogenosa determined in the laboratory. The sampling of water was performed every 10 days at 14-16 PM. The residual chlorine and pH determined in the field and the other parameters determined in the laboratory. Results: This research showed that pH>8 in 66.6% of samples and the amount of Coliform, E.coli and Streptococcus Fecalis were not at upper limit of standard, but the Pseudomonas Aerogenosa is more than limit of standard in 58.3% of samples. The residual chlorine was more limit of standard in 61.1% of samples and the amount of residual chlorine was according to limit of standard in Kiani and women’s pools. Conclusion: The lack of chlorinator system-inadequate of water treatment system and lack of knowledge pool’s incumbent cause that pH and residual chlorine were undesirable at most of the time. Additionally bacterial pollution confirms above subjects. So it is recommend that extensive research to be done on relationship between bacterial pollution and prevalence of disease in swimming pools.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Free radical production andsubsqunt oxidative steress can be due to hyperglycemia and its oxidation. This study was done to evaluate the effect of swimming training test and Fenugreek seed extract on plasma glucose and antioxidant activity in heart tissue of streptozotocine – induced diabetic rats. Methods: In this experimental study, 50 male wistar rats were allocated into five groups diabetic (DC, n=10), healthy control (HC, n=10), swimming training (S, n=10), swimming training + Fenugreek seed extract (1.74 g/kg/bw) (SF1, n=10), and swimming training + Fenugreek seed extract (0.87 g/kg/bw) (SF2, n=10). Streptozotocine (60 mg/kg/bw) was used for induction of diabetes in DC, S, SF1 and SF2 groups. Serum glucose and the rat heart tissue antioxidant enzymes activities of superoxide dismutase, Catalase and Glutation peroxidase were determined. Results: Body weight in all groups were significantly reduced in comparsion with healthy control group (P<0.05). Plasma glucose level significantly reduced in SF1 and HC groups compared to diabetic group (P<0.05). Cardiac antioxidant enzymes in swimming training, SF1 and SF2 groups significantly increased in compare to diabetic group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The combination of endurance swimming training and fenugreek seed extract can reduce plasma glucose and increase cardiac antioxidant enzymes in streptozotocine – induced diabetic rats.

Abstract

Background and Objective: The kidney has a key role in homeostatic regulation. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is essential regulator of stimulatory and inhibitory processes for neonatal, post-natal endothelial cell differentiation. This study was done to determine the effect of maternal swimming during pregnancy on VEGF level of kidney in rat pups. Methods: In this experimental study, sixteen Wistar rat dams were allocated into interventional swimming and control groups. In the first day of pregnancy, in interventional group, swimming was performed for 30 minutes a day and 5 minutes every day was added until the time of training gradually reached to one hour per workout. Dams swimming endurance training were performed in 5 days per week for three weeks. Pups’ kidneys were removed two days after birth and kindney tissue VEGF level was determined using ELISA method. Results: Kidney tissue VEGF level in interventional swimming group (133.13 pg/ml) was significantly increased in compared to controls (48.19 pg/ml) (P<0.05). Conclusion: Swimming endurance training increases the pups’ kidney VEGF level.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Resveratrol is a phenolic herbal compound which has been proposed as antioxidant in combinational therapy of diabetes, cancer and some neurodegenerative diseases. This study was done to evaluate additive effect of trans-resveratrol and imipramine to reduce depressive symptoms in the forced swimming test in mice.

Methods: In this experimental study, 56 Swiss Webster male mice were randomly allocated into 6 groups including negative control group (normal saline), positive control (imipramine (10 mg/kg/bw), experimental groups; trans resveratrol (10 mg/kg/bw), Imipiramine (10 mg/kg/bw) and mixtures (with ratio of 1:1 of resveratrol with imipramine (2.5 mg/kg/bw, 5 and 10 mg/kg/bw), intraperitoneally. The forced swimming test has been done for all groups. Through swimming of animals in water, the immobilization times of animals as depressive symptom were recorded.

Results: The immobilization times significantly reduced in animals which were received imipramine
10 mg/kg/bw in compare to control group (P<0.05). The immobilization times of animals were received resveratrol injection 10 mg/kg/bw with imipramine 10 mg/kg/bw was determined which it was significantly effective than imipramine10 mg/kg/bw, alone (P<0.05). The antidepressant effectiveness of resveratrol injection 5 mg/kg/bw is similar to resveratrol (2.5 mg/kg/bw) with imipramine (2.5mg/kg/bw). is similar to resveratrol (2.5 mg/kg) with imipramine (2.5 mg/kg/bw) (P<0.05). Also, antidepressant effect of intraperitoneal administration of resveratrol 10 mg/kg was significantly more than imipramine
10 mg/kg/bw (P<0.05).

Conclusion: According to additive effect of imipramine with resveratrol we can suggest resveratrol in combinations with other antidepressants to lower their doses and related side effects of chemical drugs.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Homocysteine and atherogenic index are significant and independent risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. This study was done to determine the effect of 10 weeks endurance swimming training on serum homocysteine level and atherogenic index in rats.

Methods: In this experimental study, 20 adult male Wistar rats (180±20 g) were randomly allocated into control (n=10) and experimental (n=10) groups. Animals in experimental group swam ten weeks of endurance training (5 days a week, for 60 minutes a day) with a 5% body weight load attached to the tail. At the end of 10 weeks and after the last of training session and 12 hours of fasting animals were sacrificed. Blood samples were taken and serum homocysteine level, atherogenic index and
NON-HDL-cholesterol were measured.

Results: Serum homocysteine level, atherogenic index and NON-HDL-cholesterol of animals significantly reduced in the experimental group compared to the controls (P<0.05).

Conclusion: Ten weeks of endurance swimming training with low to moderate intensity improves homocysteine level and atherogenic index in animal model.
